Jet ant (Lasius fuliginosus)
The female workers are 4-6 mm long and normally black. The nests are located mainly in hollow tree trunks, old fenceposts, building masonry, wall gaps and, preferably, in wooden beams, which need not necessary show prior damage.
The damage done by this species is similar to that of turf and black ants. These ants can also be considered material pests when their nests are located in houses and other buildings. There is a high potential for building substance damage.back
